- ALBANY PARK THEATER PROJECT, a multiethnic youth theater
ensemble of teenagers creating original performance works out of
real-life stories from Chicago's immigrant,
working-class Albany Park
neighborhood. Since its founding by
David Feiner and Laura Wiley in 1996,
APTP has built a reputation locally
and nationally for the power of its art
and the success of its youth development
and community building.
- INTERNSHIP FAIR - This meet and greet will create an open dialogue
in which professional theatres seeking interns, universities wishing to
place interns, and individuals desiring internships can meet and discuss
collaborative possibilities.
- IN-DEPTH PAIDWORKSHOPS - Deepen your conference experience by
attending longer, in-depth workshops with limited enrollment. The
paid workshops feature master teacher and artist, Michael Rohd;
nationally recognized artist/educators, Suzan Zeder and Jim Hancock;
and Criss Henderson, Executive Director of Chicago Shakespeare
Theatre. Enrollment will be limited and on a first come, first served
basis, so register early! See pages 10 -11.
- NEW GUARD RECEPTION - After the BFG at Northwestern, experience
fun, food and festivities! A time for first time attendees and
newer members of AATE to be welcomed and mentored by members
of the organization who have similar interests or experiences.
- SECOND CITY IMPROVISATION WORKSHOPS
Get a real taste of Chicago improv by attending one of the improvisation
workshops offered by Chicago's Second City!
- LATE NIGHT PLAYWRITING EVENTS - Wind down after a long day
with the Playwrite's Slam and the Publisher's Showcase featuring the
work of some of our best known playwrights.
- EXHIBITORS - Visit the exhibit hall on Friday and Saturday to see the
latest products and publications in the field.
- THE LION KING
We have 60 main floor tickets to
Disney's The Lion King for Friday
night. The theatre is within walking
distance of the conference
hotel. Tickets are $100 each and
will be sold to the first 60 people
who request them when registering.
- THE AWARDS LUNCHEON - Located in the Empire Room, one of the
most elegant rooms in the city of Chicago, the awards luncheon highlights
the accomplishments of our members and honors our field.
Hosted by Awards Chair Rachel Prouty and Campton Bell Award
Winner, Dr. Donald Doyle, it will truly be an unforgettable afternoon.
- ANNUAL MEETING - Join us Saturday for a time of networking,
celebrating accomplishments and looking to the future.
- CHICAGO THEATRE FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES
THE BFG (BIG FRIENDLY GIANT) AT NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY
The young orphan Sophie is stolen away in the night to a distant land
where she meets the most
unlikely of friends; a giant!
CTYA is proud to have
David Saar, founding artistic
director of Childsplay
(Arizona) on board to direct.
Renowned children's theatre
playwright, David Wood,
provides a wonderfully imaginative
adaptation of the classic
Roald Dahl text and will be at the show for a talk back.
- THEATRE FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES SHOWCASE
AATE is excited to invite conference participants to sample some of
Chicago's finest theatre for young audiences. Theatres confirmed at
press time include the Vittum Theatre and Emerald City Theatre.
Additional invited companies include Steppenwolf Arts Exchange and
Child's Play. Come see what Chicago has to offer the young people and
families of metropolitan Chicago.
