Advocating for theatre and education of the highest standards, the American Alliance for Theatre and Education (AATE) recognizes that theatre is essential in peoples' lives. AATE promotes standards of excellence in theatre and theatre education and supports the power of the creative experience. AATE connects educators, artists, researchers, scholars and administrators, and provides opportunities for members to learn from each other, exchange and diversify their practices, their audiences, and their perspectives. The dramatic impulse is a vital thread in the tapestry of life. The American Alliance for Theatre & Education provides artists, educators, and scholars with opportunities to connect with each other thereby enabling the membership to learn about and exchange ideas and resources while investigating and disseminating best practices in Theatre & Education. Serving a diverse population and providing a multiplicity of perspectives, interests and needs, the American Alliance for Theatre & Education acts as a national voice in support of theatre aesthetics and practice. We create forums for exchange and develop linkages with local, regional, national and international constituencies to promote theatre. • To foster high standards for drama/theatre education and theatre arts. • To provide leadership in creative drama and theatre for youth in community, educational and professional settings throughout the country. • To develop policies for theatre arts and drama/theatre education. • To promote theatre and the arts in the educational process by all available means, including but not limited to the following: • Seeking recognition for and support of standards and policies from teacher training institutions, and from other theatre, arts education and governmental organizations at all levels. • Identifying and cooperating with individuals and organizations with similar concerns. • Raising public awareness of the value of drama/theatre education. • To serve as a national resource network for professionals involved in theatre for youth and drama/theatre education by means including but not limited to the following: • Publishing journals, newsletters, course guides, monographs, directories, and resource lists.• To raise public awareness of the value of theatre arts. |
