Storytelling and drama are first cousins, using many of the same approaches and skills.  In storytelling, we perform both the role of the "teller” and story characters, making this a lively art form.  However, for us as teachers storytelling serves many of our learning goals as well. Cognitive and language development, social and emotional learning, and an ability to bring diversity and inclusiveness into our classroom setting all become available to us through effective storytelling. In this four-session course, drama teachers will learn strategies for engaging 4-7 year-old students in storytelling more actively – through voice, body and imagination, and we will also develop repertoire for your own storytelling practice.  This online course offers strategies for learning that can make a big difference for teachers and students in a variety of classroom settings. Four weeks, beginning September 12, 2013.
