John O'Toole Kicks Things Off With The Opening Keynote

Playwright/Director and Honorary Professor at the University of Melbourne and Griffith University, Brisbane, John O'Toole has been researching and implementing drama/theatre anti-bullying techniques for the past ten years.

Pride Players Perform

Award winning teen theater troupe from Omaha Theatre Company at the Rose entertained audiences with skits, parodies and monologues exploring issues facing gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and straight allied teens. Check out this clip from their performance.


Happy 25th Anniversary! (or Maybe Our 75th?)

Past presidents shared their wisdom and reflected on AATE's history. "It was wonderful to meet the past presidents and hear what went on during their terms--we love a long history--with more to come!", wrote one conference attendee. AATE Honors Leaders In Theatre & Education

Playwrights Slam A Highlight Of The Conference

The Playwrights Slam offers a preview of new work by member playwrights. Hosted by long-time AATE member and playwright/author Sandy Asher, artists are allowed five minutes to showcase their latest plays. Click here for video footage of the event.

Doug Herbert Shares National Trends In Arts Education

The nationwide survey on the conditions of arts education revealed the percentage of elementary schools offering instruction in drama and theatre plummeted 16% in the past 10 years. At the secondary level, less than half of schools nationwide offered students with the opportunity to study theatre. For a copy of Herbert's PowerPoint presentation, click here. Teresa Eyring Rallys Theatre Artists and Educators To Advocate

Teresa Eyring, executive director of Theatre Communications Group (TCG), shared current trends and speculated on the future. Eyring's speech will be reprinted in the upcoming issue of Theatre Youth Journal but you can check out this short clip below.
