Stephen Gundersheim received his B.S. in theatre from Northwestern University and earned his M.F.A. in Theatre for Youth from Arizona State University with an emphasis in theatre education and directing. He is an associate professor in the Theatre and Dance Department at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. Stephen serves as the Theatre Education professor and also teaches Directing and Acting and directs productions for the department. Before working at Winthrop, Stephen taught theatre at Pentucket Regional High School in West Newbury, Massachusetts for a decade. While at Winthrop, Stephen has directed Antigone, To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday, Anything Goes, Godspell, Once Upon A Mattress, Chicago and Hairspray. He has also directed in the Charlotte area at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte (Disney's Aladdin), Theatre Charlotte (Songs For A New World) and at the Jewish Community Center of Charlotte (Seussical, The Wiz, The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf, Honk, Joseph, A Year With Frog and Toad and Willy Wonka). Stephen is a member of AATE and presently serves on the board as Multicultural and Diversity board position. He is also a member of SETC, SCTA and EdTA. Most recently, Stephen was named Theatre Educator of the Year for South Carolina by SCTA.
