TIOS Regional Conferences
Share |

Theatre In Our Schools (TIOS) is a celebration of theatre in our schools and schools in our theatres. Sponsored by the American Alliance for Theatre & Education (AATE) and the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), the goals of TIOS are to raise public awareness of the impact of theatre education and draw attention to the need for more access to quality programs in and out of school for all students. While TIOS presentations and advocacy may happen anytime in schools, theatres, and other public spaces, AATE and EdTA will recognize and promote March as the official Theatre In Our Schools month.

So what does this new partnership mean for you? Most importantly, it means that AATE will re-focus the TIOS ‘mini-conference’ format to what we are now referring to as Regional Conferences. Having the opportunity to cross-pollinate between states and regions will not only be an opportunity to share knowledge and resources but will also allow those of us who feel isolated to find colleagues and future partnerships. Smaller, local events will still be a part of TIOS, as well as advocacy-based events like Wear Your Show Shirt To School Day, social media campaigns, and other activities that support the mission of TIOS.

As this is a pilot year it is our goal to host TWO Regional Conferences in the 2016-2017 year and up to 4 regional events.

What is the difference between a Regional Conference and a Regional Event?
A regional conference fits the traditional conference model in that there is an RFP process and breakout sessions, keynotes etc…

A regional event may be a play festival, extended arts integration professional development –in short it is a more focused and smaller event than a conference.

Do I need to apply for both a Regional Conference and a Regional Event?
Yes an application as well as a budget is required for both types of events.

What if I am interested to host but do not have any contacts in the other states in my assigned region?
That is not a problem –we will support you in making those introductions.
