Professional Theatre Network

Network Chair
Nora Matthews of CitiArts Theatre for Young Audiences: citiartstya@yahoo.com

Network Description
The Professional Theatre Network includes individuals working with organizations that produce theatrical events. We are comprised of artistic, management, and educational staff members from a diverse array of theatres and organizations, as well as freelance artists and artist-educators. We strongly believe that theatre is valuable and support AATE in its evolution as the national voice for Theatre & Education.

Professional Theatre Network 2004-2005 Projects

AATE Theatre Member Directory
(Nora Matthews & Steve Barberio, Chairs)
We will compile a directory of member theatres to be posted on the AATE website and distributed at the 2005 Chicago conference. The directory will include a list of: artistic/management heads, processes for submitting original work, freelance directors, internship query contacts, and past theatre seasons.  The goals of the directory are to help other theatres to know who is already a member of AATE, allow New Guard members to get in touch with theatre for internships/jobs, allow directors to compare seasons and contact one another, and give playwrights clearer answers on submission policies of professional TYA companies.

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Send an email to citiartstya@yahoo.com that you would like your theatre to be included in the directory and we will send you a form to complete.

Theatre Management Seminar
(Scott Laughead, Chair)
Criss Henderson of Chicago Shakespeare held an intensive management workshop at this year's conference in Chicago. Check back for reports and details!

Membership Drive
(Scott Laughead & Nora Matthews, Chairs)
At 2005 conference each member of the Professional Theatre Network will be asked to submit the names and contact information of three people or organizations that could be potential members of AATE.  A brochure will be mailed and a follow up call made to each potential member, inviting them to AATE’s 2006 conference!

Take a Playwright to Lunch Project
(Nora Matthews & Sandy Asher, Chairs)
Check back for updates on this project which took place at the 2005 Chicago conference!

Connecting Interns with Internship Providers
In Collaboration with the College/University/Research Network
(Cheryl Kaplan, Robyn Flatt, & Barbara McKean, Chairs)
This project will build connections between theatres and universities who place interns, and students and young professionals seeking internships and observations. The University Network will develop a list of university programs that either require or highly recommend internships for undergraduate students. The outcome of this project will be a resource link on the AATE website as well as an annual conference event which brings together theatre representatives and those interested in internships. Check back for details regarding the outcome of this event!

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Email Cheryl (clkaplan@utmb.edu) to let us know any concerns or thoughts you have regarding internships that might make this session more useful in the future.
