The 2008 Winifred Ward Scholarship

The Winifred Ward Memorial Fund, Inc., is pleased to announce the 31st Annual Winifred Ward Scholarship, named for the pioneer of children’s theatre and creative drama in the United States.  In honor of reaching such a historical benchmark, the award of $8,000 will be given to two outstanding graduate-level students of demonstrated intellectual and artistic ability in the area of child drama/theatre.  In addition, each student should indicate a professional interest in pursuing career goals consistent with the legacy of Winifred Ward.  To qualify, the student must be a citizen of the United States and must have received a bachelor’s degree before beginning the graduate degree program.  Nomination letters from graduate programs are due January 25, 2008, and application materials from nominees are due March 25, 2008.  Applicants are judged on the basis of scholarship, faculty recommendations, indications of strong professional interest and growth, successful performance in some aspect of children’s theatre or creative drama, including but not limited to directing, acting, designing, playwriting, teaching, and other criteria.  A committee of four persons, representing the Winifred Ward Memorial Fund, Inc., will make the final decision.  For further information regarding the 2008 Winifred Ward Scholarship, contact:
