Shannon R. Davis
Director, Educator, Producer & Arts Leader
Shannon R. Davis is a director, educator, producer, and arts leader whose work lives at the intersection of performance, social justice, community building, and radical imagination. After more than a decade as an arts leader in the San Francisco Bay Area, Davis is now a tenure-track faculty member at Colorado College, bringing a dynamic artist-scholar practice to classrooms and rehearsal rooms.
Her career spans higher education, professional theatre, arts leadership, fundraising, and community engagement. She has taught and directed at institutions including: The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, UC Berkeley, New Native Theatre, Saint Mary's College of California, American Conservatory Theater, Cal Shakes, The American Repertory Theatre, SF Shakes, and others. Her work has helped generate more than $2.7 million in support for artists, organizations, and cultural initiatives. Davis also co-founded the Bay Area Theatre Accountability Work Group, bringing together more than 80 theatre leaders to advance equity, accountability, and collective change across the field.
Davis holds an MFA in Directing and Acting from UW–Madison and studied with the Moscow Art Theatre-USA. Grounded in Theatre of the Oppressed, her work asks: What becomes possible when theatre invites us not only to tell better stories, but to build better worlds?
