MASTER CLASS A: Devising Theater From True Stories
(Will take place in the APTP Space: 3547 West Montrose Ave.)

$135 per ticket (Includes a ticket to Port of Entry)

Join the Albany Park Theater Project (APTP) as we delve into the art of devising theater from real-life stories. In "Devising Theater From True Stories," participants will have the unique opportunity to explore the innovative practices of APTP, renowned for their transformative performances rooted in the community’s narratives.

Led by the talented APTP teen ensemble, this workshop offers an insider's glimpse into the creative process behind crafting original performances from genuine experiences. Participants will engage in dynamic exercises and games designed to unlock the power of personal storytelling, foster ensemble, and ignite the artistic spark within.

Whether you're a seasoned performer, educator, or simply passionate about storytelling, this workshop promises to equip you with tangible tools and insights that you can apply immediately. 


MASTER CLASS B: Theatrical Tools for Justice: Using Theater of the Oppressed (T.O.) as a Viable Tool for Change 

Presenter: Jasmin Cardenas
Thursday, July 18th from 1-4pm

$60 per ticket

Can theater be a tool for justice work? Presenter Jasmin Cardenas, Co-Founder of WorkersTEATRO believes the answer is yes. Participate in a workshop that offers T.O. games and techniques mixed in with examples and lessons learned from labor organizing with low wage workers in Chicago. The past 7years have taught Jasmin a ton about what works and what doesn't work when using theater as a tool working in real world systems of oppression. Come participate in a participatory experience using her work as a case study. Walk away with games and techniques you can use in this presentation and workshop combined.


MASTER CLASS C: From Theory to Practice to Play!  Anti-Adultism at Filament Theatre 

Presenter: Reji Simon and Molly Bunder
Friday, July 19th from 3:30-6:30pm

$60 per ticket

Join Filament Theatre for a workshop exploring the theory and practices that support our sense of play! Together, we’ll investigate the ways plays and playing together can build youth agency and combat prejudice against young people. Discover new ways to be a youth advocate and ally, deepen relationships, expand your anti-oppressive toolkit, and have fun playing together!

At Filament Theatre, our decisions impact the lives of young people, so we believe that young people have the right to help make those decisions.  Filament uses the term “anti-adultism” to identify the beliefs and anti-oppression practices that guide our decision-making.   
Molly Bunder (she/her)  is a Chicago-based theater maker and educator with a primary focus in community-based theatre.  She teaches theatre as a tool for community engagement and empowerment.  Molly works with young people, women’s organizations, first-generation college students, returning citizens, and those experiencing homelessness to facilitate original performances in community settings.  Through innovative site-specific projects, she creates theatrical experiences that foster a sense of identity and belonging among both performers and spectators. 
Reji Simon (he/him) is a Chicago based producer & performing artist, and has been a Resident Artist and collaborator at Filament Theatre since 2017. In addition to performing, he is a teaching artist, producer, and casting director. Community and development lie at the heart of all of his work, Reji is committed to crafting community based art through the deconstruction of traditional theater normalities that act as a barrier to creation. Working collaboratively with his community of makers, Reji works to build spaces where artists of any medium can challenge the boundaries of imagination.  As a member of Filament’s DEIA task force, Reji works to further the vision of Filament Theatre to create a vibrant & equitable environment.
