Songs & Sing-Alongs: Space for Sharing Music of Healing, Togetherness, & Hope
with Mitch Mattson & Roxanne Schroeder-Arce

If music feeds you, join us at an open-to-all event where songs will be shared in both performance and sing-along style. A space for sharing and togetherness. Bring your instruments (guitars, tambourines, and smiles). Come hear voices old-and-new to AATE and the field. Maybe hear or share some thoughts and stories about how music and songs influence your work and life. While we can't gather in the hotel or conference room corner to share music - we'll use zoom technology to share space together and listen to one another. Casual and intentional. Join us.

DC Trivia Night
with Alexis Truitt and Tessa Raden

Can you name the Smithsonian’s, do you know what Washingtonian’s eat and drink, or know anything/everything about the fabulous DC theater scene?

Come for an evening of fun and prizes (AATE Swag Bundle or a free year of AATE Membership). Play Jeopardy along with some DC natives and flex your DC knowledge, or perhaps learn something new (like we did)!

"Stressed backwards spells 'desserts.' Coincidence? I think not!"

After an incredibly tough year, it might be nice to crunch into some brittle or enjoy a chewy caramel. Never made them? Well, let's fix that! Get into your cooking space and join Aimee Reid in making these quick and delicious treats. Make sure you're ready to go with the following!:

Peanut Brittle

  • 2 cups white sugar
  • ½ cup corn syrup
  • 1½ cups salted peanuts (or almonds!)
  • ¾ stick unsalted butter
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • nonstick cooking spray
  • medium saucepan
  • rimmed baking sheet
  • aluminum foil
  • candy thermometer (optional)
  • oven mitts / kitchen towels
  • wooden/silicone (non-plastic) spoon

Salted Caramels

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • ¼ cup light corn syrup
  • ½ cup heavy/whipping cream
  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • bread loaf pan / cake pan
  • saucepan
  • microwave-safe bowl
  • plastic wrap / wax paper (optional)
  • aluminum foil / parchment paper
  • candy thermometer (optional)
  • oven mitts / kitchen towels
  • wooden/silicone (non-plastic) spoon

** If you wish to make this a vegan recipe: Only substitute non-dairy milk with something you'd drink in regular life and don't reduce the sugar. Less sweet milk is better.
