Date and Time:

Saturday, July 17th, 2021
12-5pm (EDT)

Description:

AATE’s Leaders of Color Institute (LOCI) is a space for artists, teachers, arts professionals, administrators, and anyone who wants to learn from and interact with leaders in the field. This dedicated space only for people of color will provide professional development opportunities that include peer exchange, artistic vision, and leadership skill development. It is also an opportunity to share your work, successes, and challenges and make new connections with potential collaborators. The LOCI will help shape the next generation of the arts to better reflect the communities present.

Accomplices Leadership Institute (ALI)

Date and Time:

Monday July 19th:  4-8pm (EDT)
Tuesday July 20th:  4-8pm (EDT)
Wednesday July 21st:  12-6pm (EDT)

Description:

AATE was excited to present the Accomplices Leadership Institute (ALI) during the AATE 2021 conference for the second straight year.

ALI is an intensive program for white arts leaders who are:

  • Tired of conversations about “diversity” alone
  • Committed to “doing the work,” but not quite sure how
  • Interested in learning about the history of white supremacy in the arts
  • Looking to acquire resources, tools, and techniques to combat racism and to begin to dismantle white supremacy
  • Seeking a national network of fellow accomplices

The Institute was virtually convened, Monday, July 19 through Wednesday, July 21. Over three half-day sessions, facilitators built an environment of interactive learning. Through self-reflection and healthy risk-taking, participants examined their personal complicity in white supremacy, share strategies to begin to dismantle white supremacy in the arts, engage in visioning exercises for creating an equitable arts field, and begin imagining strategies and action steps for their organizations. This series is not a training; It is a space for exploration, experimentation, and shared learning with colleagues. It is a community of practice.
