Site Responsive Performance in a Disappearing Landscape
CRY YOU ONE is a multi-disciplinary project of the New Orleans-based companies ArtSpot Productions and Mondo Bizarro that directly addresses Southeast Louisiana’s interconnected struggles against coastal land loss and cultural loss through live performance and an online storytelling experience/platform (CryYouOne.com). CRY YOU ONE's live performance premiered October 2013 in St. Bernard, LA to a sold out five-week run. Members of The Gulf Future Coalition experienced this 2.5 mile processional through the Central Wetlands in St. Bernard, LA and were moved to envision a deep partnership with CRY YOU ONE. For six weeks during the spring of 2014, Gulf Future/CRY YOU ONE brought together their unique strengths in grassroots community organizing and artistic visioning to create five salons that took place in each of the five Gulf Coast states (TX, LA, MS, AL and FL). The salons featured short performances of CRY YOU ONE, arts-based facilitation, food and story sharing, and an interactive policy information session.
Join us at pre-conference where we will host one of these salons. Part interactive workshop, part popular education session, participants will learn more about this inspiring project, Louisiana's coastal land loss dilemma and ways that art can be used as a tool for social change. Participants should be prepared to move, sing and tell stories.
